A little history of our Local Union # 214

Our first Agreement was between IES Utilities Inc. and the International Union, United Plant Guard Workers of America (UPGWA) Representing Amalgamated Plant Guards, Local 214. This Agreement, entered into this 1st day of February, 1995 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, between IES Utilities Inc., with offices at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, its successors or assigns, hereinafter referred to as the "Company" and the International Union, United Plant Guard Workers of America, hereinafter referred to as the Union, and their respective successors and assigns as the sole and exclusive representative for the collective bargaining of the employees covered by this agreement.

The parties acknowledge that, during the negotiations which resulted in this agreement, each had the unlimited right and opportunity to make demands and proposals with respect to any subject or matter not removed by law from the area for collective bargaining, and that the understanding and agreements arrived at by the parties after the exercise of that right and opportunity are set forth in this agreement.

Therefore, both the Company and the Union, for the life of this agreement, each agree that the other shall not be obligated to bargain collectively with respect to any subject matter referred to or covered in this agreement, or with respect to any subject not specifically referred to or covered in this agreement.

By saying all that we've come a long way as a Union, and our Company has gone through several hands since our first contract. We've Been IES Utilities, Alliant Energy, Nuclear Management Company (NMC), and currently Florida Power & Light (FPL), which recently has been changed to Nextera Energy.
